Playoff format could help end Canada’s Stanley Cup drought

Canada has its best chance in a few years to end a lengthy Stanley Cup drought. No Canada-based team has won the Cup since the 1993 Montreal Canadiens. But this year’s all divisional playoff format means one team from Canada is guaranteed to make it to the final four. But it’s also guaranteed to be only one. Toronto is the top seed in the North playoffs and the favorite to reach the semifinals. Connor McDavid’s Edmonton, Winnipeg and Montreal stand in the way. The Maple Leafs face the Canadiens and the Oilers face the Jets in the first round.
