CAIRO (AP) — A U.N. official says a boat carrying migrants capsized off Libya, leaving at least two dozen presumed dead. Monday’s shipwreck was the latest involving migrants seeking a better life in Europe. Libyan coast guard retrieved one body and returned at least 42 survivors to Tripoli. On Sunday, five people drowned when a boat carrying at least 45 Europe-bound migrants also capsized off the coast of Libya. The country has in recent years emerged as the dominant transit point for migrants fleeing war and poverty in Africa and the Middle East. There has been a spike in crossings and attempted crossings from Libya in recent weeks.
