Woman donates Corvette to training program in honor of late husband

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- A couple picked up their new Corvette from Bowling Green in 2003. Nearly 20 years later, the wife donated that same Corvette that they purchased together, in honor of her husband, who passed away.

Betsy Slauson, originally from California, traveled to Bowling Green to donate the Corvette to the TSEF Driver Training Program at the NCM MotorSports Park. The staff celebrated this donation with a ceremony on Friday morning.

The program teaches basic driver skills to mainly teenagers older than 16 who are new drivers. They can practice on a course and learn to brake, yield, change speed and handle other cars without the nervousness of being on a real road.

Betsy said her and her husband, Don, owned two Corvettes during their time together. She said that he would have wanted her to do this.

“I think he’d be humbled and grateful that we had done something like this, and that his car could be used to be an inspiration to others. We’ve had some wonderful opportunities with that car, God has really blessed us in the years that we’ve owned it,” said Slauson.

This is the second Corvette that has been donated to the drivers program.
