City of Bowling Green celebrates Arbor Day by giving away free trees

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Tomorrow is Arbor Day and the City of Bowling Green’s Parks and Recreations are participating in the celebration by giving away free tree saplings.

City workers will be out at Kereiakes park off Cemetery Road with 13,000 trees to give away.

The goal of the day is to encourage city residents to plant more trees.

The available trees will be Kousa Dogwood, Swamp White Oak and Norway Spruce Trees.

Each tree was chosen because they are likely to survive in the local climate and will come with a list of instructions to help new tree owners successfully plant and care for their trees.

Trees are essential to the environment, according to city arborist Jared Weaver.
