United Way holds 13th annual Feed the Need

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The United Way of Southern Kentucky is collecting donations at local grocery stores Friday and Saturday for their 13th annual Feed the Need event.

In Warren County, volunteers will be at every Kroger and Priceless IGA on Louisville Road and Russellville Road. They also have locations in Barren County, Butler County and Logan County. Local companies also held drives for the cause and dropped off donations at the salvation army today.

Elizabeth Newbould, marketing and communications director for United Way said people have been hit hard over the past year and need food help more than ever.

Newbould says protein is always a big need, so things like peanut butter, canned tuna, canned chicken, as well as things people can easily make a meal with like pasta.

“All of us in our life experience some kind of challenge, whether it’s with food or education or health, all of us have times when we’re in need and other people have stepped up to the plate to help us. So being part of something like this, you’re reminded how you can make a difference with such a little action. Dropping off a canned good item or dry good item, buying something extra could help someone more than you can ever imagine,” said Newbould.

On Saturday, volunteers will be collecting donations at the locations from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
