Nike features Kaepernick in new ad campaign

Nike is throwing its weight behind, one of the most polarizing figures in football, Colin Kaepernick

On Monday, the shoe and apparel maker announced that, former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, would be one of the faces of it’s 30th anniversary commemoration of its iconic "just do it" slogan.

The controversial quarterback appears over a black and white picture of his face, a caption reads "believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything."

Kaepernick last played in the NFL in the 2016 season, when he began to kneel during the national anthem, to raise awareness about police brutality against African-Americans and other racial injustices. Some viewed his actions as an insult to the flag and the military men & women who gave their lives to defend it.

The announcement prompted backlash with some Nike buyers. One person cut the iconic swoosh out of his shoes.

The campaign also includes sports stars Lebron James, Serena Williams, Shaqeem Griffin, and Odell Beckham.
