Activist group holds renter’s rights rally in Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Tuesday night, a group of young adults met outside the Bowling Green City Hall to rally for change for renter’s rights.
The rally, held by the Sunrise Movement of Bowling Green, came with a short list of requests for the Bowling Green City Commissioners who were entering the building for a meeting.
Those requests were for the commissioners to consider passing a Tenant Bill of Rights, support eviction court reforms, establish a rent assistance fund and establish a social housing fund.
These requests come specifically during the pandemic with the group stating the area is struggling with a significant housing crisis.
This is a topic close to Bowling Green Sunrise Movement Hub coordinator Rachael Fantasia‘s heart after her family faced eviction when she was a child.
Fantasia hopes the rally helps open a line of conversations with the mayor and other commissioners to help people dealing with evictions and rising rent prices.
