BG Airport’s $8.4 million taxiway project is completed

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The Bowling Green-Warren County Regional Airport Board announced the Taxiway Alpha $8.4 million dollar project is completed and the taxiway is now open.
A taxiway is the way an airplane gets to and from the runway to take off and then land. The Taxiway Alpha is parallel to the runway and runs the entire length of it at 6,500 feet.
The project began in September 2019 and had three phases until completion.
Some $7.6 million was funded federally. The rest of the money came from state and local funding.
Airport manager Susan Harmon said before the new taxiway was completed, larger planes would have to back taxi the runway because of the size and weight of the aircraft. Now, it’ll make the pilots’ lives easier.
“The pilots are extremely excited because it needed some repair for some time, just the wear and tear on the taxiway over all the years. And they are so excited because it’s so smooth and we were very excited and very appreciative of the money,” said Harmon.
