Inmate trash detail temporarily suspended due to COVID

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – You may have noticed litter on the ground a little more now than before the pandemic.

It has become a concern for some local residence of Warren County.

When asked about the issue during the Warren fiscal Court meeting Tuesday morning, Fourth District Magistrate Rex McWhorter says this is an issue that he has been working to have solved, but because of the pandemic, the usual cleanup crew is unavailable.

The people who typically pick up trash from the side of the road are work-release eligible state inmates serving time in the Warren County Regional Jail but due to COVID, they aren’t able to leave and re-enter the jail like they used to.

Jailer Stephen Harmon called it a health concern Tuesday morning in Warren County Fiscal Court.

The jailer and magistrate are hoping they can return inmates to trash pickup soon but because of the virus the time frame has not yet been set.
