Many gather in Bowling Green to march for Breonna Taylor

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Many people converged on Circus Square Park Saturday evening to march and protest over the death of Breonna Taylor.

Taylor was killed in March inside her Louisville apartment in a hail of gunfire while police were attempting to serve a search warrant. Her boyfriend Kenneth Walker thought the police were intruders and opened fire, shooting and injuring one police officer. That officer and another standing near the doorway returned fire.

A third officer is accused of blindly firing his weapon with the bullets endangering the lives of three other people in a nearby apartment. That officer was indicted on wanton endangerment charges unrelated to Taylor’s death. No one has been charged in Taylor’s death.

Taylor’s death resulted in national outcry over the deaths of Black people at the hands of police.

The BG Freedom Walkers organized the march in response to last Wednesday’s Jefferson County grand jury announcement about the charges.

Saturday’s affair featured a handful of speakers who urged those in attendance to continue letting their voices be heard in a peaceful and respectful manner.

Karika Nelson, founder of the BG Freedom Walkers, organized the event and explained that Saturday’s protest and march were intended to “bring the community together with love, peace and unity.”
