GLASGOW, Ky. — The Glasgow Parks and Recreation Department has been working diligently on a reopening plan that will be in accordance with CDC, federal, state, and local guidelines as well as National Recreation & Park Association and Kentucky Recreation & Park Society recommendations. Based on the current operational capacity of GPR, current funding levels, and other governing bodies, all city parks will open on a 7-day-a-week schedule on Friday, May 22. There are, of course, protocols that must be followed and those are included below.

  • Everyone going into the parks should do their part and practice safe social distancing. If there is any chance that you are ill, please stay home for the safety of others.
  • Each park will have signage informing patrons which facilities are closed. Temporary orange fencing will surround closed areas. The public is asked to respect those boundaries.
  • Construction is being done at the Main Street entrance to Gorin Park all the way to the tennis courts. As a result, this ares will be completely closed to the public. For your safety, please avoid the area.

It should be noted that policies and openings may change at any time in deference to new guidelines and recommendations that may be received from local, state, or federal government entities. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep residents appraised of any changes.

Many parks will have areas that will not be available to the public. The following areas will open Friday, May 22, at the following city park and recreation areas:

  • Beaver Creek Park Walking Trail, Green Space, Parking Lot, and Open Air (not those under shelters) Picnic Tables
  • Weldon Park Walking Trails, Green Space, Parking Lot, and Dog Park areas #1 and #2
  • American Legion Park Green Space and Parking Lot
  • Gorin Park Green Space, Parking Lot, and Tennis Courts

For safety, and in accordance with guidelines, the following areas in these city parks will remain closed:

  • Weldon Park Restrooms, Playgrounds, Shelter, Ball Field, and Batting Cages
  • American Legion Park Restrooms, Playground, Shelters, and Ball Field
