Testing expanding further in Warren County
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Another COVID-19 testing goal is currently in the works to get 2,000 people tested in the area between this week and next.
The Zip Clinic, Bluegrass Medical and Ely Drugs are setting up testing sites all over Warren County throughout these two weeks with a specific goal in mind.
A big portion of the sites are in areas populated with refugees.
Wednesday, the Zip Clinic set up a testing site at the International Center on Kenton Street.
Amia Vincent the clinic manager for Zip Clinic Urgent Care says while they do take insurance, no one will be turned away because of being uninsured.
“We want everybody in our community to be tested. We want to help everybody out. We want everybody to know if they have COVID and if they do, so that we can take precautions and so that we can stop the spread,” said Vincent.
Vanisha Stewart-Amoah, the health and wellness case manager for The International Center, said this opportunity for testing is extremely important to the refugees in the community.
“These people have been displaced. They are coming from places where there is famine, genocide, any type of war anything like that and they are coming here where they have not had proper health (care) and so we are trying to make sure that they are treated equally like they have the same services that we had growing up,” said Stewart-Amoah.
If international communities are tested, it will lower the spread of the virus according to Bowling Green International Communities liaison Leyda Becker.
“There has been a lot of people that have come together to make this happen and things have happened really quickly and now we are just getting out to the communities,” said Becker.
Not only is the testing available throughout the week, but there are interpreters at each location as well.
“We have counseling on what to do if you have COVID in other languages. We have interpreters to help this go smoothly so that they know everything in their language, and they can understand everything in their language. We have worked years with the International Center, very closely with the international population and they are a big part of our community,” said Vincent.
