Man who killed late wife’s naturopathic caregiver gains early release from prison

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green man who pleaded guilty to the shooting death of his late wife’s naturopathic caregiver was granted early release from prison following his attorney’s Nov. 26 motion for shock probation.

Warren Circuit Judge Steve Wilson granted the motion Monday to release Omer Ahmetovic. Ahmetovic was originally sentenced in June to 12 years in prison for second-degree manslaughter and tampering with physical evidence.

Ahmetovic, 36, pleaded guilty June 7, 2018 to shooting Juan Gonzalez, 59, his late wife’s naturopathic caregiver, inside Gonzalez’s business on the U.S. 31-W By-Pass. Ahmetovic has been incarcerated since March 8, 2017 when he was arrested for the March 2, 2017 shooting.

In his attorney’s motion for shock probation, the motion reads that Ahmetovic was “acting under extreme emotional disturbance, that, quite frankly, is understandable, under the circumstances.

“Not only did the victim in this case sexually assault the defendant’s dying wife, he was a substantial factor in causing the death of the defendant’s wife, by the practice of his quackery, in the ‘treatment’ of her cancer,” the motion reads.

Ahmetovic’s late wife, Fikreta Ibrisevic, was receiving cancer treatment from Gonzalez when she died after Gonzalez told her “chemotherapy is for losers,” according to the motion, and told her she should stop radiation and chemotherapy because those treatments would kill her.

Prior to killing Gonzalez, Ahmetovic was suing him, Warren Circuit Court records show.

Ahmetovic has two young children.
