UPTON, Ky. — The Upton Fire Department is reporting a vehicle crashed into a firetruck during a collision response on Interstate 65.

According to Upton Fire Chief Tyler Hiser, on Saturday, Aug. 15 around 10 p.m., Upton units responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-65 northbound near the 81-mile marker.

Hiser says while firefighters were working on scene, an Upton Fire Department apparatus parked to protect emergency responders and provide a warning to drivers was hit.

There were no injuries as a result of that collision, according to Hiser.

Hiser stated this is the second time since May that an Upton Fire Department apparatus was struck as fire crews worked a crash scene on I-65.

“Our firefighters are working to protect the public. Please do your part to protect them,” Hiser stated. “Please remain alert, slow down and move over when approaching emergency vehicles and personnel working along the roadway.”
