Semi truck carrying detergent crashes, shuts down part of I-165 near Gasper River

Bowling Green, Ky. – Several agencies, including Warren County Fire and Emergency Management, are responding to a rollover accident involving a tractor-trailer carrying detergent on I-165 northbound.

Bowling Green Fire Department Public Information Officer Elyse Jonker tells WNKY News 40 that the truck, which was carrying approximately 38,000 pounds of powdered detergent, crashed into a guardrail and part of the bridge over the Gaspar River.

Due to the detergent and diesel runoff from the truck, Jonker says the scene is being treated as a hazmat scene. According to Warren County Fire Chief Bill Rector, the material is non-hazardous, and there is no current danger to the public.

Authorities say northbound I-165 is currently shut down, and there is some structural damage to the bridge; the state highway department is responding to the scene to determine the severity of the damage. The estimated time of the shutdown is currently unknown.

No injuries have been reported in connection with this accident. As more details become available, News 40 will bring you more information.
