Allen County to begin Trap, Neuter, Release program with Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society

ALLEN COUNTY, Ky. – Allen County will soon be entering into an agreement with the Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society to help with trapping, neutering and releasing outdoor cats in the community.

The Allen County Fiscal Court was awarded a grant from a local foundation to help with this new TNR program. This is Allen County’s first attempt at TNR to help slow the growing population of cats in the community.

Allen County Judge Executive Dennis Harper said that they had already began work in the community, and this will help expand their efforts.

“They said last year they’ve already done 100 cats in Allen County,” Harper said. “So it’s, they’re already well underway. But before we even signed a decree and we’re very, very excited about getting them to come through Allen County to help with this problem that a lot of communities have. And we wonder what we’re going to do if, you know, cats usually end up with if we end up at the animal shelter, if we can’t adopt them out, they usually get euthanized. And we really want to cut down on that the best we can.”

Harper says that oftentimes, elderly individuals will not spay or neuter their cats and will see populations grow rapidly, leading to an increase in animal food cost and even health problems.
