Empty The Shelters to promote pet adoption

Bowling Green, Ky. – The Bissell Pet Foundation is bringing back its national Empty the Shelters event, partnering with 269 shelters across the country to help pets find their homes at a reduced price.

From Sept. 18-30, adoption fees will be reduced to combat overcrowded pet shelters.

Thanks to Bissell’s support, the Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society is introducing an interactive “Spin & Save” Wheel. Every approved adopter will spin at checkout to reveal an adoption fee ranging from $35 to free, the shelter says. All adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, fully vetted and microchipped.

“Our shelter has been operating at maximum capacity throughout the summer, and events like Empty the Shelters are a true lifeline for our animals,” said Leah Lawrence, BGWCHS Adoption Center manager. “We wanted to bring extra joy to our community with our ‘Spin & Save’ wheel and Saturday’s kickoff party. Whether your adoption fee ends up being $35 or completely free, it’s a great deal, and every single adoption opens up a kennel for another animal in desperate need.”

The Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society is partnered with the Bissell Pet Foundation and will offer a special adoption offer during Empty the Shelters.

To kick off the festivities, BGWCHS is hosting a shelter-wide celebration on Saturday, Sept. 19. Community members are invited to visit, meet adoptable pets and enjoy food trucks on-site from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring Totally Baked Pretzels and Rita’s Italian Ice.

Empty the Shelters has helped more than 431,000 pets find their homes since 2016.
