WKU Player of the Week: volleyball setter Kate Rush

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Today’s WKU Player of the Week goes to volleyball setter Kate Rush.

The sophomore earns the honor after compiling an impressive stat line in the Hilltoppers’ opening weekend of play at the Southeast Missouri State tournament.

Rush totaled 16 kills, 81 assists, 18 digs, eight service aces and two blocks in three games over the weekend.

She finished with a combined hitting percentage of .455.

In Saturday’s sweep of the Redhawks, she posted a career-high of 40 assists which made up for nearly half of her total on the weekend.

Her efforts also led to her being named the Conference USA Setter of the Week.

This week, her coach spoke on the confidence Rush gave him after seeing her performance in the opening week of the season.

“ I thought of all the players on our team, Kate Rush probably was the kid that I came out feeling the best about after week one,” head coach Travis Hudson said. “She’s the quarterback. She’s running that offense and she was put to the test a little bit because we didn’t pass the ball great, so she was on the run a lot.”

Rush and the rest of the Hilltoppers return to action at the Wright State Invitational with Ball State this Thursday, September 3, at 5 p.m. CT.
