Portland man charged after allegedly crashing into ambulance with personnel, patient inside

PORTLAND, Tenn. – A Tennessee man faces several charges after allegedly crashing into an ambulance.

According to a release from the Portland Police Department (PPD), a Portland Animal Control officer witnessed a car strike a parked ambulance and leave the scene on West Market Street Aug. 26. The ambulance was active, and personnel were responding to a medical emergency.

PPD says the Animal Control Officer stopped the car and made contact with the driver, Joe Bradley of Portland.

During the investigation, PPD officers determined that emergency personnel were providing medical care to a patient inside the ambulance at the time of the crash.

Bradley allegedly told officers, “he did not believe the collision was a significant matter and indicated that he believed the ambulance was ‘hogging the road,” according to the release.

The vehicles sustained minor damage, according to PPD.

Officers say that Bradley’s driver’s license was revoked after a fourth DUI offense and he did not have proof of insurance.

Bradley was arrested and charged with driving on a revoked license, violation of the move over law, violation of the financial responsibility law, failure to exercise due care and leaving the scene of a property damage crash.

According to PPD, Bradley will appear in court on Sep. 11 at the Sumner County General Sessions Court.

The investigation is ongoing.
