11-year-old dies after being struck by vehicle in Breckinridge County

CLOVERPORT, Ky. – An 11-year-old child has died after reportedly being struck by a vehicle in Breckinridge County on Monday.
According to the Kentucky State Police, at 4:33 p.m. EST, troopers were contacted regarding an 11-year-old child hit by a vehicle.
Authorities say the collision occurred on Elm Street near the intersection of Seventh Street in Cloveport.
Troopers say they responded with other emergency personnel to the scene and began investigating. Authorities say the child was transported by helicopter to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville with life-threatening injuries.
Authorities say despite lifesaving efforts, the child died due to their injuries and was pronounced dead by the Jefferson County coroner at 9:12 p.m. EST.
Troopers say a preliminary investigation shows the child was riding a scooter and entered Elm Street, traveling into the path of a passenger vehicle driven by 22-year-old Dalton Kellems of Cloveport.
Kellems stopped and remained at the scene to render aid to the child, authorities say.
KSP was assisted at the scene by Cloverport Police Department, Breckinridge County EMS, Hardinsburg Police Department and the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation remains ongoing.
