Man arrested after allegedly leaving scene of crash, hiding in Bowling Green backyard

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly leaving the scene of a crash in Bowling Green.

According to a uniform citation, Bowling Green police responded Sunday night to a reported injury collision at 1220 Broadway Ave. Police say they were notified a driver had fled the scene.

Police say multiple calls reported a male subject was hiding in a backyard on Nutwood Street.

Officers say they detained the male, identified as 51-year-old Fidel Banegas.

Authorities say Banegas admitted to consuming four alcoholic drinks before the crash as well as abandoning a vehicle he drove.

Officer say other parties involved reported minor injuries.

Following a blood draw at The Medical Center at Bowling Green, Banegas was transported to the Warren County Regional Jail.

He remains there on several charges, including first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, leaving the scene of an accident – failure to render aid/assistance, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, no operators moped license and failure of non-owner to maintain required insurance/security.
