2026 Football Frenzy: Caverna Colonels
HORSE CAVE, Ky. – It’s officially game week for high school football in Southcentral Kentucky, and in our latest Football Frenzy preview, presented by Bowling Green Fireplace & Grill, we get a look at the Caverna Colonels.
“ They know when I mean serious or when I’m joking around, which we can joke around, have fun, but they know when I’m serious. So, I think that kind of helps the relationship, to know, and they want to feed off of that,” first-year head coach Tim Gower said.
Gower has taken charge as head coach of the Colonels, and although he’s in a new position, he’s familiar with the players, coaching many of them in middle school just a few seasons ago.
He’s starting year 26 in coaching within the Caverna School District, and with him comes a new era of the Colonel offense, one that’s eager to earn its own stripes.
“We’re kind of fast-paced, so you really don’t really see much because when that ball is hiked, it’s all go,” sophomore quarterback Jackson Corn said.
“We have the same goal, try to win as much as possible. We put in a lot of work every day, we just keep pushing ourselves, try to condition as much as possible,” sophomore wide receiver Keylan Bailey said.
Roughly half of last year’s Caverna roster graduated, meaning this team is full of new, but they’re determined to find success and a strong end of season result by building off the basics of the game.
“I mean, we’re not the biggest, but we definitely got heart,” junior running back Weston Vibbert said. “I think we’re ready for whatever comes towards us.”
“Yeah, we’re small and mighty, but that’s what we like around here,” Corn said.
“I want them to have fun. I want them to enjoy the game of football like I do,” Gower said.
“I want them to experience a win, and I told them, ‘We can only go up.’ I said, ‘Nobody’s expecting us to do anything, so everything we do good is gonna be that much better.’ I said, ‘We’re gonna have fun, but it’s always more fun to win.'”
Caverna is scheduled to start the season on August 21 at Trigg County High School.
