Bowling Green Fire Department achieves recertification as ISO Class 1

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Fire Department says it has been awarded recertification as an ISO Class 1 Department.

On Tuesday, the department shared the update after a thorough review of the structural fire suppression delivery system provided to the Bowling Green community. Insurance Services Office has awarded the Bowling Green Fire Department the highest possible Public Protection Classification.

According to the department, achieving an ISO Class I certification places the BGFD as one of the top-rated fire departments in the nation, with 517 achieving the classification through a third-party review of fire department operations, emergency communications, water supply and community risk reduction programs.

In addition to the certification, the Bowling Green Fire Department says it is accredited through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.

Fire Chief Justin Brooks said, “The journey towards making it better is never ending. Keeping our Class 1 rating only validates the need to stay on the course of continuous improvement. Being 1 of 127 career fire departments across the nation to be both accredited and hold a class 1 ISO rating, sets the high standards we keep for ourselves.”

The BGFD first achieved an ISO Class 1 score following a review in 2020.

Brooks said, “As grateful as we are today for many things that are viewed as successful, we stay steadfast in the pursuit of excellence and we do this not for ratings or recognition, but we do it because the citizens are worthy of our very best.”
