United Way of Southern Kentucky celebrates 10 years
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Since opening in 2016, the United Way of Southern Kentucky has been helping the community for 10 years.
The United Way of Southern Kentucky specializes in helping with anything related to health and human resources. Those resources vary from things like helping find someone to get a tire fixed to helping with rent at the end of the month. The community, not just in Bowling Green but in surrounding counties, has easy access to the resources they have to offer. All someone has to do is dial 2-1-1.
“To be able to know that there’s a place people can call if they need help is important to those who need help. It’s important to those who are struggling or going through a difficult time. So knowing that for the last 10 years they’ve had one central number to call to get resources. Our community is wonderful. There have always been people willing to help,” says Executive Vice President of United Way Ellie Harbaugh.
Harbaugh emphasizes the different places and help that the United Way can help people access. She also mentioned the important connections that the United Way has in the community, such as local nonprofits.
Megan Henness, director of 211 operations at United Way of Southern Kentucky, highlighted the importance of knowing that anyone in the community can utilize the 2-1-1 resources.
“At 211 we don’t screen for eligibility. We’re not going to look at your income. It’s just like maybe you had a flat tire, and you had to use your funding to buy new tires and now you don’t have the money for your rent. That’s okay. That’s what these resources are for. They’re not just for these major crises or, you know, people that, you know, don’t have money consistently. It’s for everybody. It’s for people who are just in a situation where they can’t get what they need,” says Henness.
After being around for 10 years, the United Way of Southern Kentucky is ready to take on the many more years to come. They hope that people will continue to reach out for help if they need it and to know about all the resources that are available.
