Sumitomo employees in Edmonton included in latest round of state workforce training funds

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) — Employees at Sumitomo Electrical Wiring Systems in Edmonton will soon receive workforce training and skills development thanks to an investment provided through the Bluegrass State Skills Corporation.
According to the Office of Gov. Andy Beshear on Thursday, 232 employees at the Edmonton facility are among the 7,400 Kentucky workers impacted by the allocation.
Officials say Kentucky’s investment in workforce development advances what has been the best six-year period for economic growth in the commonwealth’s history.
The latest BSSC meeting closed out fiscal year 2026. In all, the board approved 112 applicants for more than $9.5 million in training funds and credits, supporting more than 28,400 trainees across the state.
Kentucky employers can apply for BSSC’s Grant-in-Aid and Skills Training Investment Credit programs to help offset approved workforce training costs. Applications are reviewed by the BSSC board of directors.
