White Squirrels set to debut Friday at Bowling Green Ballpark
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – You may have visited the brewery or seen the furry creatures around town, but there’s a new set of White Squirrels coming to Bowling Green soon.
The Bowling Green Hot Rods are scheduled to debut a new alternate identity called the Bowling Green White Squirrels for three games this season, the first being Friday, May 22.
The team has had many successful alternate identities in its past, including the Bowling Green Cavemen and the Bowling Green Bootleggers, and now a new uniform will grace the diamond this weekend at Bowling Green Ballpark.
The city has been a home to the unique furry friends for over 85 years and is top 10 in North America for white squirrel population.
Now, Bowling Green is home to one of the coolest uniform combos in the country, and Kyle Wolz, General Manager & COO of the Hot Rods, recently shared more behind the design process of bringing the white squirrels to life.
“ We worked with a former colleague of ours, Brandon Lamarche with ‘3-2 Designs,’ and we really kind of gave him our inspiration of, you know, white uniforms tying into the white squirrel theme, as well as the red with the cardinals, and it really kind of stuck with him. He put together a fabulous design that we’re excited to roll out this Friday,” Wolz said.
“We have some of the best uniforms in minor league baseball, and I think when you throw in our alternate identities, it allows [the team] to mix it up a little bit, feel comfortable out there, and they have success on the field with all the uniforms and identities that we play under.”
Catch the White Squirrels on the field for the first time on May 22 against the Asheville Tourists, and if you aren’t able to make it for the debut matchup, the Hot Rods will rebrand again on August 8 and September 4.
The first 500 fans at the gate on May 22 will receive a White Squirrel BobbleTail presented by White Squirrel Brewery, and ticket sales at all three matchups are set to help raise funds for the Lost River Caves.
