Metcalfe County celebrates America’s 250th Anniversary

EDMONTON, Ky – Metcalfe County Schools is celebrating 250 years of America with students across the district this week.
With support from community funding, the district was able to provide students with T-shirts, American flags and copies of the Declaration of Independence.
The celebration included an assembly where students learned about the history of the Declaration of Independence and honored family members who have served in the military.
Organizers say the weeklong celebration would not have been possible without the efforts of retired Metcalfe County teacher Carol Perkins.
“I went to the superintendent with the idea, and he was all for it,” Perkins said. “Then I met with the principals and told them I would help however I could. That’s really how this program came together.”
Perkins also helped secure funding to provide each grade level with commemorative items because she believed it was important for students to learn about American history.
