Bowling Green celebrates National Bike Month
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – May is National Bike Month, and the City of Bowling Green is preparing to celebrate bike riders.
Bicycle education, ribbon cuttings, giveaways and a ride with the mayor are all part of next week’s fun.
The month celebrates and encourages recreation for the family, staying fit and safety for the two-wheeled riders.
According to the national safety council, in 2024, over 6,000 motorcyclists died. In 2023, over 75,000 riders were injured.
Local leaders say that bike training and learning the safety of the road could help keep you safe.
“People on bicycles are vulnerable road users. We don’t have the safety of a car and the steel to protect you from an impact. So, we try to promote bike safety all the time, but bike month is a great time to promote that, so, we always try to teach the kids and adults to wear helmets, use lights, things that make yourselves more visible. So, this is a good opportunity to spread the joy of biking and the message of safety,” said Natasha Smith, coordinator for Bike Walk BG.
Next week there will also be a proclamation for the City of Bowling Green to officially announce May as Bike Awareness Month.
