BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Businesses from across Bowling Green visited Greenwood High School for the SCK launch job fair.

The event gave students a chance to connect with employers, and potentially secure jobs after graduation while helping local businesses find future workers.

Career opportunities included construction, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, and professional services.

Organizers say building a strong school-to-work pipeline is important for the future of Bowling Green’s workforce.

“This is the path that these students want to go. They want to go into work full-time,” said Holly Whitinghill, college and career coach at Greenwood High School.  “These students are not looking to go to further their education at this time but maybe looking for  training on a job.”

Whitinghill said this also brings an economic impact for employers in the community.

When the students scored well on their interviews, they received a gold star. So far, six special students have impressed employers.

“For the business it helps them to find new employees, that they can mold into whatever culture that they have in their business,” said Whitinghill.

The ‘Ready. Set. Hire.’ initiative was launched by the South Central Workforce Development Board to give students a head start to success in the workforce.
