First 2020 Corvette rolls off Kentucky assembly line

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – For generations, the Corvette has been known as America’s sports car, as well as a Bowling Green icon. On Monday, the first 2020 Corvette Stingray rolled off the assembly line at the General Motors Plant in Bowling Green.

“It was right around 6:15. Our shift starts at 6. We had a small contingency of people there to have an important celebration here in the Bowling Green Assembly Plant. We’re just ecstatic with the start of the production of this new awesome car,” said plant manager Kai Spande.

Fans of the Corvette say it’s a good year to be an enthusiast. The National Corvette Museum already has a power train development mid-engine display, but it’s not the actual 2020 model. Director of marketing and communications Katie Ellison says people have been wanting to see the car.

“As an enthusiast, it’s something we’ve been looking forward to for almost a year since they debut it last summer in California,” Ellison said.

Ellison said this car can be a way to introduce new fans to the Corvette family.

“This car is going to introduce some new fans to the Corvette brand. We’ll very soon have many of them passing right here through the National Corvette Museum,” Ellison said.

With a new generation added to the timeline, the dream of America’s sports car lives on.

“This has been really the dream of the original Corvette designers from the start back in the 50s and 60s,” Spande said.
