Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 releases latest traffic impact report

Traffic Alert

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The expected traffic impacts in the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 area for April 17 through April 24 are listed below.

All work is subject to change.

Interstate 165

  • A project to completely restore and preserve the I-165 bridges over the Green River (mile point 32.6) in Butler County continues. Motorists have switched onto the new traffic pattern. The northbound motorists have been switched to the southbound side. The speed limit has been lowered to 55 mph. Motorists should use caution. The project is expected to last until fall of 2026.

Barren County

  • KY 90 (mile points 0.2 to 8.8) – A project to enhance safety and efficiency along a 9-mile section of the KY 90 Happy Valley Road corridor in Barren County has started. The limits of the project are between Sanders Street (mile point 0.2) and U.S. 68 Veterans Outer Loop (mile point 8.5). The project adds alternating passing lanes and new turn lanes at different points along the corridor. Drainage improvement work, guardrail work, shoulder improvements, passing lane extensions and vegetation trimming are also included in spots along the route.

Logan County

  • KY 2376 (mile point 4.7 to 7) – Crews are expected to begin working on base failure repairs. Flagging operations and delays can be expected during daytime hours.
  • U.S. 79 (from KY 100 to U.S. 68, mile points 15.2 to 16.1) – Crews will be working on sealing and striping operations. Delays should be expected.

Metcalfe County

  • U.S. 68 (from near KY 729 to KY 745) – A project to improve safety and mobility along a section of U.S. 68 in Green and Metcalfe Counties has started. The project will realign U.S. 68 from near KY 729 in Green County to KY 745 in Metcalfe County. The 1.2 miles of new alignment will feature 11-foot travel lanes with 4-foot paved shoulders. The new alignment is designed to reduce curvature and grade variations and will include construction of a new bridge over Caney Fork Creek. Motorists should use caution in this area.
  • U.S. 68 (at the intersection with KY 70) – An intersection safety improvement project is expected to begin on U.S. 68 in Metcalfe County. The intersection of U.S. 68 and KY 70 will be reconstructed to a new alignment just to the east of the current intersection. Motorists should use caution in this area.

Todd County

  • U.S. 79 (from the Tennessee State line to the 3-mile marker) – A project to widen U.S. 79 in Todd County from the Tennessee State line to mile marker 3 continues. Motorists should expect some lane closures and construction vehicles entering the roadway.

Warren County

  • U.S. 31-W (mile points 20.9 to 22.5) – The project to widen U.S. 31-W in northern Warren County continues. The project widens U.S. 31-W from U.S. 68 to Mizpah Road. Traffic has been switched onto the new section of road, but it is two-way traffic for now. There is one travel lane in each direction. Crews will begin working on the other side of the road. McGinnis Quarry Road remains closed.
  • KY 185 – Two improvement projects on KY 185 have started. Lane closures can be expected between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. along the corridor. The realignment section of KY 185 will create a new road to the east of the current KY 185, starting near Runner Road and tying back into the current KY 185 just south of KY 1320 (Penns Chapel Road). The HSIP section of the project is from KY 1320 to near Jack Simmons Road, 1.26 miles in length. Drainage improvements and ditching will be a part of this project.
  • U.S. 31-W (From KY 234 to Park Street) – A project to widen the U.S. 31-W Bypass to five lanes from KY 234 to Park Street in northern Bowling Green has started. A long-term construction zone has been set up, narrowing traffic to one lane in each direction with a center turn lane. This is for the construction zone only. The project is expected to be completed sometime in 2027. Delays and traffic queues should be expected.
