Glasgow detective receives honor for arrest of national organized retail crime suspect
GLASGOW, Ky. – The Glasgow City Council met for the first time this month, honoring a member of the police department.
Walgreens corporate major crimes unit presented Detective Allen Ward with an award for his role in a large-scale investigation.
Officials say Ward helped identify and apprehend a suspect linked to an organized retail crime ring that stole more than $120,000 in merchandise from Walgreens across the country.
A Walgreens Investigator, Greg Lazette, says teamwork and persistence were key in solving the case.
“For me, it’s the partnership working from, you know, the public private sector. A partnership between the two is vital for US to do our job effectively and and help them do what they do best,” said Lazette.
Those involved in providing Detective Allen the award surprised him not only with the award but also invited his family as well.
“They helped me get me to where I am, the point that I’m at right now. And so it’s almost kind of like seeing the hard work that they put in pay off through me. It was really nice to receive that for their behalf as well,” said Ward.
Detective Ward also said that receiving the award was an honor, but his ultimate goal was to solve the crime.
