BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Crews continue to work on a large sinkhole that has impacted part of Cambridge Drive in Bowling Green.

Last Monday, Cambridge Drive at Grinstead Way closed due to the reported sinkhole.

The city says the project will take at least another month as crews make repairs and ensure the area is safe.

According to a social media post by the city on Monday, city manager Jeff Meisel joined city geologist Nick Lawhon on site to check on progress and further review ongoing remediation.

The city says Bowling Green is built on a karst landscape, where water “naturally moves underground.” Sometimes, this includes sinkholes.

City officials say this system makes repairs like this case more complex than only filling a sinkhole.

Crews are using specialized techniques, including stabilizing the ground and allowing groundwater to naturally flow below the surface, the city says.

Drivers should continue to seek an alternate route as work continues.
