METCALFE COUNTY, Ky. – Several people were injured and one infant was transported to a hospital following a collision in Metcalfe County on Friday.

According to the Metcalfe County Sheriff’s Office, on March 20 around 4:30 p.m., deputies were notified of a two-vehicle injury collision on KY 1048 around a half mile east of the Center community of Metcalfe County.

Authorities say a preliminary investigation revealed 27-year-old Justin R. Slayton of Center was driving a passenger car eastbound on KY 1048 with four passengers, including 42-year-old Danielle Hogan of Center, 26-year-old Samantha Knight of Edmonton, 26-year-old Devin Benjamin of Edmonton and a male infant.

Deputies say Slayton attempted to pass another eastbound vehicle in a no passing zone. During this time, authorities say Slayton crossed into the path of another vehicle driven by 67-year-old Denton Cooper of Livingston, Tennessee traveling westbound.

Denton Cooper had one passenger, identified as 65-year-old Brenda Cooper of Livingston.

Both vehicles collided in the westbound lane of KY 1048 and immediately came to a halt, authorities say.

The wreck resulted in several injuries for all parties involved, according to deputies.

All injured were removed from the scene by Barren-Metcalfe EMS and transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

Brenda Cooper was later transported to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Benjamin and the infant male were later transferred to the University of Louisville Hospital.

Seat belts were in use for some involved, authorities say. Deputies say alcohol did not contribute to the crash.

The collision remains under investigation. Deputy Nunn was assisted by Barren-Metcalfe EMS, North Metcalfe VFD, Edmonton Metcalfe VFD and Kentucky Emergency Management.
