Bowling Green man charged after alleged attempt to steal vehicle

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – One man is behind bars after an alleged attempt to steal a vehicle in Bowling Green left one man injured.
According to a uniform citation, the Bowling Green Police Department responded Saturday to 1225 N. Lee Drive.
Police say upon arrival, they located a male lying down in the parking lot with a fractured ankle.
According to police, the male stated 31-year-old Fiston Chance of Bowling Green tried to take his vehicle. During that time, authorities say the male stated he had left his keys in the vehicle when Chance suddenly tried to leave in it.
Authorities say the injured male said he was standing next to the open driver’s side door when Chance tried to reverse the vehicle.
Police say the injured male reported Chance refused to get out of the vehicle and continued to reverse, running over the victim’s leg.
According to authorities, Chance ran from the scene before first responders arrived.
Chance was later located and placed into custody.
Authorities say Chance stated that “his friend was teaching him him how to drive, and he accidentally ran him over.”
Chance was arrested and transported to the Warren County Regional Jail.
He faces charges of first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident – failure to render aid or assistance/assist with death or serious physical injury, attempted theft by unlawful taking or disposition auto between $1,000 and $10,000 and no operators moped license.
