Man dies after crashing into garbage truck in Mercer County

SALVISA, Ky. – One person is dead after crashing into a garbage truck in Mercer County.

According to the Kentucky State Police, troopers were contacted just before 7 a.m. Tuesday regarding a two-vehicle crash on Louisville Road in Mercer County.

Authorities say an initial investigation indicated a trash truck driven by 35-year-old Jeremy Caudill of Hustonville was stopped northbound on Louisville Road collecting trash at a home when it was struck from the back by a Chevrolet Silverado driven by 44-year-old Jason McCarty of Harrodsburg.

As a result, troopers say McCarty sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Mercer County coroner.

Caudill was not injured in the collision, authorities say.

The collision remains under investigation. Troopers were assisted on the scene by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, Mercer County EMS, Mercer County Fire Department and Mercer County Coroner’s Office.
