State and energy leaders discuss Kentucky’s energy future
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With energy costs rising, state leaders and members of energy providers around the state gathered to discuss the future of energy in Kentucky and what can be done to prepare for the future.
Congressman James Comer spoke to the future of energy in Kentucky and how crucial it is to protect the coal industry, which has historically been the main source of energy for Kentuckians. However, another form of energy was also discussed for the future.
Nuclear energy is popular in certain parts of the state, especially the Paducah area, and Comer says Kentucky could become a leader around the country when it comes to nuclear energy.
“Kentucky has the opportunity to be a leader in America in nuclear energy, and I want to be more specific. Paducah, Kentucky, has the opportunity to be the leading nuclear city in America,” said Comer.
Comer went of to say that the previous administrations has proven detrimental to Kentucky’s energy production and have driven up costs, especially when it comes to the regulations that were laid on industries like coal, gas and oil.
Comer and energy leaders says this has led to a cost increase, which has also been a top priority, with some of the most expensive days in the past 20 years have come during the winter storm that hit the county in January.
