‘Common’ jury duty scam targeting Grayson County, authorities say

GRAYSON COUNTY, Ky. – The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community about a circulating jury duty scam.
Authorities say the scam is a common one, where scammers call residents of Grayson County about a missed jury duty court date.
The caller uses the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office as a caller ID, deputies say.
Authorities say jury duty forms were sent out in Grayson County by the GC Circuit Clerk’s Office. In addition to a phone call, the caller may send a copy of a “civil warrant” with a resident’s name on it and demand them to pay a free to avoid an arrest.
Deputies say the scammer may even email a fake copy of the Department of Justice Civil Division laws and regulations section.
According to authorities, this is all a scam. No law enforcement agency will demand payment in order to avoid an arrest warrant over the phone, especially involving simply missing jury duty or a court date.
Normally, authorities say these scams will include “obvious grammar, punctuation and spelling errors” that are immediately recognizable.
If you are contacted by this number, authorities say to refer it to the real Grayson County Sheriff’s Office.
