Man allegedly abuses pregnant mother, causes death of unborn child in Bell County

BELL COUNTY, Ky. – A man is charged with fetal homicide after allegedly physically abusing a pregnant woman.

According to a release, the United States Marshals Service (USMS) Eastern District of Kentucky (E/KY) Central Kentucky Fugitive Task Force (CKFTF) London Office, along with Bell County (KY) Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), USMS Eastern District of Tennessee (E/TN) Smokey Mountain Fugitive Task Force (SMFTF) Knoxville Office, Blount County (TN) Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) SWAT & K9 Units, Middlesboro Police Det./Lt. Barry Cowan and Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a fugitive investigation in the 100 block of Antler Drive in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, on Feb. 13.

35-year-old Taylor C. Dehart was arrested on an indictment warrant charging him with first-degree fetal homicide.

Law enforcement says Dehart physically abused a pregnant mother by inflicting blunt force trauma to her abdomen and placental abdomen. The unborn child died as a result of the abuse.

Dehart was also wanted for failure to appear (fta) for assault – 4th degree, (2) two Kentucky Department of Corrections probation violations, and by the state of Georgia Department of Community Supervision (DCS) for a probation violation on original charges of armed robbery.

Dehart was lodged at the Claiborne County, Tennessee Jail awaiting extradition to Bell County.

The investigation is ongoing.
