GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. – One person is dead and another is reportedly injured after a house fire in Graves County this past weekend.

The Graves County Sheriff’s office says on Sunday, 911 calls were received around 11:20 a.m. regarding a residential fire at 12865 State Route 303.

Deputies say Cuba Fire Department personnel faced “non-passable road conditions and temperatures in the low teens” while responding to the scene.

According to the sheriff’s office, the home is a total loss after the fire.

Authorities say 79-year-old Garvin R. Doran and his 81-year-old wife, Faye Doran, ran outside of their home after it caught on fire.

Deputies say Garvin Doran told his wife he had to go back inside to get something but never returned.

Authorities say the couple heated their home with a wood stove.

Faye Doran was transported to the Jackson Purchase Medical Center by the Mayfield Graves County Ambulance Service and was later transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of her injuries from the fire.

She remains in serious condition, according to deputies.

Cuba and Sedalia firefighters reportedly fought the fire and searched for Garvin Doran for hours.

Authorities say the search was suspended near dark Sunday evening but resumed Monday morning. Around 12:05 p.m., authorities say Cuba fire, deputies and the Graves County coroner located Garvin Doran’s body.

He was pronounced dead at that time.

The fire and death remain under investigation by the Graves County coroner and the Graves County Sheriff’s Office.
