BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Kentucky highway crews are ready to deploy for potential winter weather event this weekend, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3.

KYTC District 3 covers counties that include Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson, Todd and Warren counties.

The National Weather Service Louisville has placed the entire District 3 area under a Winter Storm Warning, which begins overnight Friday through Monday, according to KYTC District 3.

Anti-icing operations ahead of the winter weather system began Thursday and will continue into Friday afternoon, transportation officials say.

Officials say this weather event continues to evolve.

According to transportation officials, “confidence remains high” of a major winter weather system moving through the District 3 area Saturday morning through Monday.

Snow amounts also continue to change, officials say, although significant snowfall and icing are expected at this time.

Transportation officials say they expect major traffic impacts, even on main routes during this system.

Officials say District 3 crews continue to monitor forecasts, and crews from each county are prepared to deploy to plow and treat roads as needed.

District 3 residents are encouraged to prepare for the winter weather now and not wait until the system hits, transportation officials say.

Once the winter weather system moves into the area, travel may become very hazardous.
