Husband, wife dead following reported shooting incident in Metcalfe County

EDMONTON, Ky. – Two people are dead following a reported shooting incident in Metcalfe County.

The Kentucky State Police says troopers responded at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday morning to a report of a shooting incident on Shady Grove Wickerville Road.

Authorities say they located 83-year-old Doris June Huffman of Hardyville dead inside of a home from an apparent gunshot wound.

Troopers say she was pronounced dead at the residence by the Metcalfe County coroner.

Her husband, 87-year-old Vander Huffman of Hardyville, was also located in the residence with life-threatening injuries, authorities say. Troopers say he sustained an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Vander Huffman was transported to T.J. Community Hospital, where he died due to his injuries later that afternoon.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital by the Barren County coroner.

The investigation remains ongoing. KSP Post 15 was assisted by the Metcalfe County Sheriff’s Office, Barren/Metcalfe County EMS and the Metcalfe County Coroner’s Office.
