Poland’s president invited to Israel amid row over WWII
WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Israel’s president has invited his Polish counterpart for talks in Jerusalem, aimed to boost relations following tensions over World War II history. Israel’s president issued the invitation Monday in Poland during observances of the 75th anniversary of the liberation, by the Soviet Red Army, of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi German death camp. Ties between Poland and Israel have been overcast by disputes over the Holocaust narrative and by an anniversary ceremony in Jerusalem last week that some saw as belittling Poland’s role in fighting the Nazis.
