KSP investigating officer-involved shooting in Boyle County

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Boyle County.
According to a release, KSP’s Critical Incident Response Team responded to investigate the incident on Sunday at approximately 8:40 pm CDT.
KSP says its initial investigation indicates that the Danville Police Department responded to a call regarding an armed, suicidal person at an apartment complex located at Centre Estates Drive in Danville.
The release states that when police officers arrived, the person, identified as Cody Downey, 29, of Danville, charged at officers, brandishing a knife.
One officer fired his weapon, striking Downey, police say.
KSP says officers performed life-saving measures until EMS arrived at the scene. EMS then transported Downey to Ephraim McDowell Hospital.
Downey was later pronounced dead by the Boyle County Coroner’s Office.
KSP says no other injuries have been reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
