Russellville man charged with reckless driving, claims to be ‘federal agent’

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – A Russellville man is behind bars after authorities say he nearly caused a collision and claimed to be a federal agent.
According to a uniform citation, the Russellville Police Department was notified by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday evening that a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, crossing the center line and had a flashing light in the window.
Authorities say they were told the vehicle then drove through an intersection at the Bypass and Franklin Road without stopping.
Authorities say they were told the driver then ran a red light through the next intersection, nearly causing a collision with another vehicle.
According to police, a deputy with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office advised the vehicle then ran another red light at an intersection.
Police say they conducted a traffic stop.
The driver was identified as 36-year-old Charles Fowler of Russellville.
Police say they detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from Fowler and the vehicle.
Fowler was arrested. During a vehicle search, police say they located suspected marijuana and an open alcoholic beverage, along with a flashing light hung in the rearview mirror.
While inside of the police cruiser, police say Fowler stated multiple times he was a federal agent and was responding to an emergency.
Fowler remains at the Logan County Detention Center on charges of reckless driving, first-degree wanton endangerment, disregarding a stop sign, disregarding a traffic control device – traffic light, possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia – buy/possess, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a substance, second offense, impersonating a peace officer and possession of open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle prohibited.
