Wellness Connection opens warming center as temperatures fall

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With temperatures falling below 35 degrees once again, warming centers like the one at Wellness Connection in Bowling Green will be opening their doors for those in need.

From Tuesday, Dec. 30 to Thursday, Jan. 1, Wellness connection will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for anyone who needs a warm place to stay and get out of the cold.

The location is offering anyone in need a warm place to stay and rest throughout the day, along with a chance to warm up with some coffee and even some snacks.

With the temperatures falling, Samantha Webb, coordinator at Wellness Connection, decided to open the warming centers earlier so those who didn’t have somewhere to go now have a place to come and get warm.

Being out in the cold isn’t easy and can make things harder for some both mentally and physically.

“We see a lot more of our unhoused individuals being sick during this time of year because they’re out in the elements.” Webb said, “And longer than, say, someone like I’m in the position now where I have a home and they’re out in the elements more during the winter times. And it’s so it’s harder.”

Wellness Connection will be open Tuesday through Thursday this week from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 428 Center St. The Salvation Army at 400 W. Main St. will be open daily as temperatures get to 35 degrees or below.

If someone is in need of a place to stay overnight, registration for Room In The Inn will take place nightly at 5 p.m. at 423 W. Main Ave. across the street from the Salvation Army.
