Authorities find 55 pounds of meth disguised as Christmas gifts in Jeffersontown

JEFFERSONTOWN, Ky. – In Jeffersontown, authorities say they unwrapped some Christmas gifts early to find more than 55 pounds of illegal drugs.
The Jeffersontown Police Department says it worked alongside the Kentucky State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration to arrest 23-year-old Jacob Talamantes of Nebraska on Monday.
Police say they seized over 55 pounds of methamphetamine disguised as wrapped Christmas gifts.
Authorities say they conducted an investigation in the 11500 block of Bluegrass Parkway. During this time, police say Talamantes arrived in a vehicle and attempted to walk away from officers. However, Talamantes was detained.
Police say a K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics outside of the vehicle.
During a vehicle search, authorities say they located multiple boxes wrapped in Christmas paper containing methamphetamine.
Police say Talamantes stated he was traveling from Iowa and intended to traffic drugs.
Talamantes was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine). Additional charges are possible.
The investigation remains ongoing.
