BOWLING GREEN, Ky – A man has been apprehended in Bowling Green after allegedly stealing a mini van.

According to a uniform citation, a Bowling Green Police Department officer was conducting an extra patrol at Regency Place Apartments on Sunday due to an earlier possible theft of construction items and identified a white mini van that was described as being involved in the theft.

The citation states an officer conducted a traffic stop as the van was driving away and said the driver, Sony Thomas, 33, of Bowling Green, failed to provide identification and provided a false name.

After the suspect was warned, the officer says Thomas allegedly admitted that his name was Sony Thomas, and the officer was able to determine that he was driving on a suspended license.

It was also reported that Thomas had put tags on the vehicle belonging to a different vehicle, according to the citation.

Police say dispatch later confirmed the car to be a stolen 2004 Honda Odyssey as of Sept. 10.

According to the citation, the vehicle was impounded to BGPD after the owner was not able to be contacted or found.

Thomas was arrested and was lodged as the Warren County Regional Jail.

He is charged with providing false information to an officer, receiving stolen property between $1,000 and $10,000, display of illegal/altered registration plate, failure of non-owner operator to maintain required insurance and operating a motor vehicle on a suspended license.

The investigation is ongoing.
