Community gathers to honor Mike Murphy

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) — Bowling Green came together Saturday, December 20, to honor the life of Mike Murphy, a longtime community leader remembered for his faith, mentorship, and dedication to the city.

Warren County Judge-Executive Doug Gorman said Murphy’s influence spanned decades and touched countless lives. “I met Mike when I was 20 years old, and so he’s been really a mentor to me for 42 years now,” Gorman said. “Truly one of the most intentional persons you’ll ever meet in your life.”

As friends, family, and community members gather for Murphy’s funeral Saturday, Gorman said many will remember him for far more than his professional success. “He was a tremendous businessman. And that’s the easy thing to say,” Gorman said. “But what he was was ten times better as a husband, a father, a family man and a follower of Christ.”

Gorman said Murphy’s absence will be felt deeply across Bowling Green. “Murph was just the ultimate cheerleader for this community,” he said. “And it’s just a big hole in the heart of our community for sure.”
