BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Police Department is raising awareness of a phone scam using a number that looks as if it is a legitimate contact.

According to BGPD, a scammer may call posing as your doctor’s office, with the phone number appearing to be the office’s actual number.

The caller then will claim there was a problem processing a payment for a recent visit or procedure, police say.

The agency says the caller will then try to gain credit card or personal information.

However, there are steps to take to protect information from this scam.

First, BGPD says not to give your personal details or financial information over the phone.

Second, hang up immediately. You should also contact your doctor’s office using a number you know is legitimate if you have concerns, police say.
